How long does it take for your trash to breakdown?

Every year humans create over 8 billion tonnes of plastic waste. It is very possible that every plastic bottle you have ever used is still on this planet. That's because it can take up to 450 years for it to break down.

Here is the low down for you.

Fishing line takes the longest to decompose, a shocking 600 years! Disposable diapers and plastic bottles take about 450 years.

Plastic bags can take up to 20 years to break down, while styrofoam cups take 50 years, and cigarette butts take 10.

It is up to us to make a change

Plastic has become indispensable in our lives, because It's lightweight, tough, transparent and waterproof. However they take hundreds of years to biodegrade, which is why it is important that we are mindful of the plastic waste we create, especially single-use ones.

It's in our hands to save the planet we live in, and start making small actionable steps towards reducing waste. It can be using your own reusable bottle, reusable coffee mugs or reusable grocery bags. A small inconvenience for a better and cleaner earth.
